Special projects are defined in a variety of ways: uniqueness of the
construction, aggressiveness of the schedule, the complexity of the trades involved, or
the unusual nature of the project itself.
One such project involved the conversion of two elementary
schools in the city of Brockton. This nearly $4 million project, required the
conversion of 260,000 square feet of classroom and administrative space from an
all-electric facility to a combination of heating and cooling equipment. This
renovation included gas-fired rooftop air handlers with air conditioning, cast-iron
hot water boilers with gas burners, indirect-fired domestic hot water tanks, and
conversion coils for existing air handlers which were to remain. The work was
completed, working double shifts when necessary, to ensure that the school opened on time
